The Best Day of the Week to Buy Gas in Cebu

Timing your fill-up can save you money. We analyzed six months of price data from over 200 gas stations across Cebu province, tracking more than 15,000 individual price reports submitted by Gas Tipid users. Here's what the data reveals about weekly price patterns.

The Weekly Pattern

Average price of regular gasoline by day of the week:

DayAverage Pricevs. Weekly Avg
MondayP63.60-P0.30
TuesdayP63.55-P0.35 (cheapest)
WednesdayP63.70-P0.20
ThursdayP63.95+P0.05
FridayP64.10+P0.20
SaturdayP63.900.00
SundayP63.75-P0.15

Tuesday is consistently the cheapest day to buy gas in Cebu, with an average savings of P0.35/liter compared to the weekly high (Friday). For a 40-liter fill-up, that's P14 saved per week — or P728 per year.

Why Tuesday?

The pattern is driven by how oil companies adjust prices in the Philippines. Price adjustments are typically announced on Wednesday evenings and take effect on Thursday. Stations that want to undercut competitors often lower their prices on Monday or Tuesday in anticipation. By Friday, stations that didn't adjust early catch up, pushing prices to the weekly high.

Time of Day Matters Too

Our data also shows a subtle time-of-day pattern:

  • 6–8 AM: Slightly lower prices (P0.10–P0.15 cheaper). Stations haven't adjusted for the day yet.
  • 12–2 PM: Average prices.
  • 6–8 PM: Slightly higher prices. Evening commuters are less price-sensitive.

Combined with the Tuesday pattern, Tuesday at 7 AM is the statistically optimal time to fill up in Cebu.

Exceptions to the Rule

  • Holiday weeks: The pattern breaks during Holy Week, Christmas, and other major holidays when demand overrides normal pricing cycles.
  • Price adjustment weeks: When the DOE announces a nationwide price change, all days are equally affected.
  • Independent stations: Smaller, non-branded stations don't always follow the weekly pattern and may have random promotional pricing.

Maximize Your Savings

  • Set a reminder to fill up on Tuesday mornings
  • Use Gas Tipid to check which stations near you have the lowest prices today
  • Don't wait if your tank is near empty — the savings from timing are small compared to the risk of running out of fuel
